Landscape lighting
in Keller

Keller is mostly newer building on big lots. That changes what landscape lighting should actually be doing — and it is not what most installers will quote you.

The Keller problem

Young trees, and what to do until they catch up

Most landscape lighting advice assumes mature trees. Uplight the oaks, moonlight the canopy, done. That works in a neighbourhood that has been there sixty years.

A lot of Keller has not. The lots are generous and the houses are substantial, but the landscaping is often ten or fifteen years old — good-sized trees, not giants. Uplighting a tree that is not big enough yet gets you a lit trunk and a dark garden.

So on a Keller property the weight usually shifts. The architecture and the hardscape do more of the work, and the planting gets lit for what it is now rather than what somebody hopes it will be.

“Light the tree you have, not the tree on the fixture box.”

What leads on a Keller job

Hardscape first, planting second

Step and wall lighting

Fixtures tucked under caps, treads and seat walls so the light shows and the source does not. Keller properties tend to have real outdoor living space, and this is the difference between a patio that is usable after dark and one that is decorative.

Wall grazing

Light set tight to a stone or brick elevation and thrown up the face at a shallow angle. It rakes across the texture so the material reads at night. On the dry-stack and cut-stone frontages common here it is worth more than any amount of path lighting.

Pool and patio

Surrounds, coping, water features and the route out to them. The brief is to be able to use the space, not to light it like a stadium. Fixture placement matters far more than output.

And then the trees, properly. Where there are specimens worth lighting we light them, and where there are not we say so. A medium tree takes a lower output and a wider beam than a big one, set further back. Get that wrong and it looks like a searchlight in a shrub.

Built to be added to. The transformer and cable are sized with headroom so that in five years, when your oaks have actually grown, uplighting them is a case of adding fixtures rather than pulling the system out and starting over.

Where we work in Keller

How it works

Four steps, and you only do one of them

Send a photo

Text one picture of the front of your house. That is genuinely all we need to start. No appointment to book, nobody at your door.

See it lit

We send back a picture of your house with the lights on, built from your photo. The roofline is traced from your actual structure — nothing moved, nothing redrawn.

Written price

Priced by how much roofline we light and how tall and accessible the house is. You get it in writing. Nothing to sign on the spot.

Install

Track mounts to the fascia — the trim board under the roof edge — never through your shingles. Then we set it up on your phone and show you how to run it.

Most people end up doing both

Landscape lighting handles the ground. Permanent roofline lighting handles the house, and because it goes up once it never comes down again. Quoted together or separately — there is no discount for bundling and no penalty for not.

Straight answers

Questions we get asked

My trees are still small — is it worth doing landscape lighting now?

Usually yes, but the design should be different. Weight it toward the house, the hardscape and the approach, and light the planting for the size it is. We size the transformer and cable with headroom so adding tree fixtures in five years is simple.

What is wall grazing?

A fixture set close to a wall, throwing light up the face at a shallow angle so it rakes across the texture. On stone and brick it makes the material read at night instead of going flat. It is one of the most under-used techniques in residential lighting.

Can you light the pool area?

Yes — surrounds, coping, steps, water features and the route out to them. The aim is a space you can actually use after dark, which generally means fewer fixtures placed better rather than more fixtures turned up.

Will my HOA allow landscape lighting?

Keller has a lot of managed neighbourhoods, so check your covenants. Landscape lighting is usually an easier conversation than roofline lighting because the fixtures are low and largely concealed, but we will supply whatever the board wants to see.

Do you charge more to come out to Keller?

No. Same pricing wherever we work. No travel fee and no out-of-area minimum.
